D.C in May

    Watch more than 90 chihuahuas race to win pet-friendly gifts, and dress up your own pooch for a chance to win prizes in our pet costume contest.

    Register your pup to race here through May 4. Admission is free and the rain date is May 12.

    This beloved event is produced in partnership with On Tap Magazine. Proceeds from the race will go to Rural Dog Rescue.

    5TH ANNUAL FUNK PARADE – May 12th @ 1pm

    In honor of U Street’s diverse cultural history, people from all over the District come together to celebrate the spirit of funk at this free, one-of-a-kind parade, street fair and music festival. Watch the street (and side streets) come to life with live musical performances and entertainment from a variety of vibrant dancers, marching bands and visual artists. Get an education on go-go music, made famous by DC’s own Chuck Brown, and then groove to Latin hip-hop, funk brass and frenetic DJ sets, among many activations. Good to know: There will be plenty of opportunities to fuel up from street-side food and drink vendors so you can funk out all day and night long.

    The 10th anniversary Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge presented by TCMA celebrates culinary diplomacy and provides a uniquely DC opportunity to taste authentic food & drinks from embassy chefs representing all regions of the world. An array of international performances including musicians and dancers provide the entertainment throughout the evening. In no other city can you experience in a single evening the array of delicious, authentically-prepared global cuisine and diverse, live cultural performances. Cultural diversity and inclusion are at the forefront of the Challenge. Attendees must bring an empty stomach, open mind and be prepared to take a journey around the world.

    ZOOFARI: DINE FOR WILDLIFE - May 17th, 6:30-9:30pm

    ZooFari is a premier culinary event featuring nearly 100 of the top Washington, D.C., restaurants and vintners—all in the wild setting of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. ZooFari is an evening of delicious food and fine wines, featuring unforgettable live entertainment from the chef that rocks, DJ Chef—champion of the Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen—renowned dance band DC Fusion, and classically trained violinist Ben Hoyt. Also, don’t miss the exotic animal encounters, food sculptors, a cake-decorating contest by the Art Institute of Washington, and a silent auction featuring exclusive paintings made by D.C.’s famous panda family Mei Xiang, Tian Tian, and Bei Bei.     SPRING WINE FESTIVAL & SUNSET TOUR - May 18th-20th, 6-9pm

    Celebrate the history of wine in Virginia with exclusive evening tours of the Mansion and cellar, appearances by George and Martha Washington, and a live jazz band. Bring a blanket, relax on the east lawn overlooking the scenic Potomac River, and sample wines made in Virginia.

    During tours of the Mansion, visit the cellar where Washington stored his wine and learn about the successes and failures of our Founding Father’s endeavors with wine.
