Cue Europe because it’s the final countdown!
We hope you’ve been enjoying our tournament thus far. We know that nothing comes close to the real thing, but we’ve had fun with this in lieu of our typical activities during this time. We hope you’re all staying safe and healthy. For those keeping tabs on bragging rights, here you go. Here’s your Elite 8 recap:
South Region: #4 Fenced Backyard started strong with its full-court press, but #3. Finished Basement took a time-out early to adjust their press-breaker and converted three straight lay-ups to easily break the 2-2-1 defense. It seems it was just some nerves, as the #3-seed calmed down and stuck to their game plan. Led by seniors, Big Screen and Play Station IV, Finished Basement took the lead with 9:02 left in the first half and didn’t look back. Shot selection was key, and the Basement players ended the game with an impressive 62.5% shooting from the field.
South Region Champion: #3. Finished Basement
East Region: #3. Short Commute’s long run into the postseason finally came to an end, as #1-seed, Single-Family Home, will return to the Final Four and keep its chance to defend its title. Express Lane led Short Commute with a triple-double, but his impressive performance just wasn’t enough to slay the dragon. Single-Family Home started with a 12-2 run and just continued to add to its lead throughout the game. The team set a new Realtors Athletic Association record, too, with 15 3-pointers in the game.
East Region Champion: #1. Single-Family Home
Midwest Region: As exciting as the last round was for the Midwest Region, the entertainment factor fizzled out this round. #1. Open Concept Living/Kitchen defeated #3. Quiet Neighborhood in a lackluster performance from the #3. seed. Fans were caught leaving the game early to get a jump on traffic. Quiet Neighborhood should be proud of its efforts though, as they reached the Elite 8 for the first time in the last five years. In the winner’s bracket, #1. Open Concept Living/Kitchen will move onto the Final Four for the 10th consecutive year after another dominating performance.
Midwest Region Champion: #1. Open Concept Living/Kitchen
West Region: In perhaps the best match-up of the entire tournament, #2. Highly-Rated Schools slid by #1. 2+ Car Garage. The game was back-and-forth all night long, and it came down to stand-out, junior guard, Extra Curriculars drilling a last-second 3-pointer. At first, it seemed that his foot was on the line, and he merely tied the game. Video replay, however, revealed that the junior guard’s foot was, in fact, BEHIND the line! Coach Prince A. Pal and his quick-thinking to ask for a video replay gets the assist on this one. It will still go down as one of the most controversial endings in recent memory, as some still don’t believe video replays belong in the game. The #2-seed will return to the Final Four for the fifth consecutive season. Senior Epoxy Flooring led his team with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and two assists on the night in the loss.
West Region Champion: #2. Highly-Rated Schools
